Easy switcheroos to help you lose weight

Look, adjusting your diet for weight loss can be tough. So I’m here to help. Here are my top switcheroos to cut back on calories simply.

Switch

  1. White rice for basmati rice
Basmati is low gi and lower calorie and I doubt you can tell the difference
  2. Vegetable stock to reduce need for oil.
This is a useful one if you need your food to cook a little longer while reducing the need for oil. Especially good for broccoli and stir fry vegetables.
  3. Replace sugar with monk fruit ‘sugar’.
Monk fruit is technically not a sugar and contains nearly zero calories (check the label). It gives you that little bit of sweetness. It is especially helpful if you quit sugar and are having cravings.
  4. Replace white flour products with other grain flours – You will feel fuller because of it.
Buckwheat is an amazing flour substitute for pancakes (I actually prefer it). There are some excellent rye breads and sourdough options that are super tasty.
  5. Replace treat snacks for healthy snacks
A bit peckish? Have a slice of apple, a few nuts. Don’t reach for the chocolate bar
  6. Switch processed for unprocessed – across the board
  7. Don’t consume liquid sugar, switch it for soda water, plain water or a dash of lemon.
Many people drink a lot of sugar through juice or soda. Both are unhealthy and cayse numerous health issues.

Reduce

  1. Eat off a smaller plate. subconsciously you’ll feel you are eating enough when it is served on a small plate vs a large plate.
  2. Have your pasta, just have less of it, more toppings and sauce instead and have a salad or grain bread with it.
  3. When having peanut butter on toast, don’t add butter or margarine first, it’s just not needed.
  4. Reduce your oil consumption by opting to make your own fries with an air fryer, cutting back on how much oil you add to the pan.
  5. Try one slice of toast in the morning rather than two
  6. Remember you can go back for a little more if you truly did not eat enough, but you can’t go back if you eat too much. See how you go with eating less and balance that with your needs to sustain you through the day. Many people have issues related to overeating, so this is a good place to start.

Feeling hungry

  1. Drink water first, still hungry…
  2. opt for a slice of apple, or a carrot
  3. have a seeds and nuts allocation – you’d be surprised at how filling 5 macadamia nuts can be and it may just get you through till your next meal.
  4. Don’t be tempted by ‘treat’ snacks – They could blow out your good work.
  5. have a cup of ‘milky’ tea

You can still go to dinner, you can still have a ‘treat’ occassionally. But planning for it is the key. I literally had a cinnamon scroll for breakfast the other day, but I had a salad for lunch. This is what I need to do.
